I went in the charity shop (National Animal Welfare Trust) in Watford on Saturday to have a look around. I entered the building and went to the other end of the shop where I saw a tall bookcase with lots of china for example mugs, plates etc, some were not in a very clean condition as everything was second hand. I then went to have a look at this mug that was behind another mug and when i went to take it out, the one in front which was on the edge of the shelf fell on the floor and broke. I then went down on my knees and collected the broken pieces with my bare hands. A volunteer approached me with a dust pan and a brush and said to give him the broken pieces. I apologised for the broken item and he then turned around and the first thing he say was that i will have to pay for it. He then tried to find the sticker that was attached on one of the broken pieces. His attitude took me by surprise and I said to him that the mug was sat on the very edge of the shelf and it fell down when i tried to take another mug out from the back of the shelf and he angrily responded and said to me, it doesn't matter, you will still have to pay £1 for the mug and at that point i went all quiet and then after a few seconds I said fine, i'll go the till and pay for it. The whole experience upset me a great deal, i found this volunteer extremely rude and horrible, i just wanted to pay the £1 and leave the shop immediately, that's how upset i was. This volunteer had ginger hair, pale skin, was slim and wore glasses. I have never before experienced such a terrible attitude from a shop assistant, let alone a volunteer in a charity shop! I have witnessed people breaking expensive items in shops like Fortnum and Mason, Harrods, etc and the staff were always polite with those people, i heard them saying not to worry and not once they said that they would have to pay for the broken items... And for this to have happened to me in a charity shop by a volunteer who looked at me in disgust and who was adamant i paid £1 for a dirty mug that was donated to them is appalling. I have never in my life have been humiliated that way or encountered anything of the sort. He was just a horrible, nasty person and he should not be volunteering for this charity or any other charity out there. I shall not be coming back to that specific charity shop and i shall tell everyone about my dreadful experience there.
